Note of the Meeting of the North Tolsta Historical Society at the Comann Eachdraidh Room on Tuesday 21st. January 2014 at 7.30p.m.

2. Minute of Meeting of 26th. November 2013
Minute of meeting on Tuesday 26th. November was approved.
3. Matters arising
C. Macleod to write to Mary Jones’s daughters to thank them for their kind donation.
4. General Office Supplies Required.
Office supplies urgently required! Paper, envelopes, card, plastic sleeves, memory sticks, printer ink, memory etc
5. Seanchas Urgent!
Articles required A.S.A.P. for Spring Edition; C.M. to write update on WW1 project; D. Maciver to write update on T.C.D.L. D. Maciver is also keen to stimulate interest in a new boat building project in the village. This would be something similar to what they have in Shawbost.; J.A. to write article about Community Dinner; C. Macleod to ask Catriona to write short piece about the late Mairead Hulse.
6. Heritage Sites in North Tolsta -Update.
Four committee members attended the G.P.S. training in Stornoway on 9th December. A meeting is to be arranged in the Tigh Ceilidh so that these 4 members can show the rest of the committee how to use the new equipment. To date £2300 has already been spent on this project.
7. Effects of WW1 on the Village of North Tolsta -Update
C.M. is to liaise with the school as she hopes to take the Upper Primary classes to the War memorial in the village in February or March. After the talk, she has poppy seeds which she would like the children to plant there. C.M. would also like to go to the Youth Club which meets in the Hall on a Friday evening. During the course of the year Social Evenings are also to be arranged. C.M. has already spoken to possible speakers for these evenings.
Sub group formed to assist C.M, with this project -C.M. Smith, S. Maciver, R. Murray, C. Macleod and M. Murray. First meeting will be on Tuesday 28th. January at 2p.m. in the C.E. room.
8. Hebridean Connections - Progress Report and Newsletter
Hebridean Connections is a project created by local Historical Societies based in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. Hebridean Connections multimedia website now incorporates more than 28,000 historical records. One of the specific objectives of the current phase is to enhance the website with the addition of thousands of new records from throughout the Outer Hebrides. This will make it the largest free-to-access database of historical information about the islands. Their first newsletter is now available.
9. Data Protection on 16th. January at Third Sector Hebrides.
C.M. attended this training session. This was more for professionals working in Health or Education posts.

Balance to date is £18,839.41.
